UPDATE: The indictment has now been published. It basically alleges CONSPIRACY to commit transport of alien. There is a whole lot of detail about the overall scheme, but no real evidence cited that Kilmar himself actually knew what was going on or even how often he was involved.

There is one potentially damning fact: DOJ alleges that in the Tenn traffic stop Kilmar said he was coming from St Louis but license plate info showed that the car hadn't been near St. Louis. That would suggest knowledge via a lie. But DOJ has a problem in that its earlier report said that Kilmar correctly said he was coming from Houston.

On good old Jose. He apparently WAS deported and illegally reentered. That might be what the mystery case from Texas was all about.

The indictment is linked in the very interesting Asha Rangappa Substack which is the source for the updates described here.

Let’s be real: They needed *something* to blame Abrego Garcia with … to “justify” their later misguided actions.

I will say that he hasn’t been a sheet metal worker long. “First year apprentice.” so going back to 2004 some time? We don’t know much about how he made a living before that. But from experience with my undocumented immigrant friends, I doubt it was knowingly doing something illegal.

Doesn’t matter to the DoJ—facts give way to baked-in prejudice; no doubt the papers will mention “invasion” or some such inflammatory nonsense.

Good thing Abrego Garcia isn’t asking to vote: How many gum balls in that jar, boy?

Really interesting article and thank you for all the work.

Human trafficking? Apparently, Being Brown in America is too long a phrase (although equally inappropriate).

They are desperate to validate their actions against him, and the longer this goes on, if he gets set free, the bigger the embarrassment for the DOJ and the bigger the settlement for him. Neither of which is palatable to Trump's people now.

I do doubt he will ever be set free and allowed to stay. Probably deported for wasting the governments money by actually claiming his rights. But apparently the pardoned Proud Boys are suing for something at 100million—don’t bet against Bondi “settling” with them.

It would be COOL if Canada let him be deported to there. They are mad enough at trump to spit in his eye with that.

I hadn't heard about the Proud Boys but I'm willing to bet you're right. Bondi will make lots of noise about the terrible weaponization of the DOJ that took place under the Biden administration and then hand over millions of our tax payers' dollars all the while telling us it's Biden still costing us money.

I'm pretty sure that Canada isn't too impressed with Musk, either.

well, true. But accepting HIM as a deportee would just make trump gleeful.
